Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we have been able to carry out important improvements:

The new residential social health centre was inaugurated in Lesmo.

Thanks to much-appreciated help from institutions, businesses and supporters, the new Lesmo Centre officially started up on 28 May 2005. At the moment there are 14 guests staying full time but others will join them in the course of the year.

Completion of external paths at the Lesmo Centre

Lesmo has now opened its doors to our deafblind guests. We are finalising work on the outdoor paths, the last stage in the completion of a great project.

The Lega has learnt from experience that being outside in the middle of a natural environment is relaxing and helps the development of learning and social skills. This was the reason for the creation of a network of well-equipped paths. There is a “perfume path” and a “water path” among others so that users can follow the paths suited to their own motor, sensory and cognitive capacities.

2003

Furnishing the new residential social health centre in Lesmo.

We are finishing off the furnishings in the new residential social health centre in Lesmo. This is one of the last things to do before the centre becomes operational. Furnishings for more than 200 different spaces has been bought, to cover a surface area of more than 6000 sq. m. Everything has been designed to take account of all the latest techniques to guarantee our guests maximum use and enjoyment of the Centre. Thanks to the help of our supporters, the Centre will soon be able to welcome our first young deafblind guests.

2002:
Improvements made to exterior environment of the Osimo centre
Improving the external environment
at the Osimo Centre.
With the contributions we have received, we have managed to improve the paths, organize an area for practicing gardening and horticulture and buy all the equipment necessary for our park for amusement and relaxation. Thanks to all this work many of our adult guests will have the opportunity to consolidate their orientation, mobility, communication and personal autonomy skills.

2001:
Extending the Osimo Rehabilitation Centre
We have extended part of the Institute and re-organised the general services to give us more space for educational and rehabilitation activities.
The work has allowed us to:
- make the music and speech therapy rooms bigger

and more functional;
- make two new rooms for educational/rehabilitation

activities;
- installation of an elevating platform for disabled

people with serious motor problems;
- make the kitchens conform to new regulations

and improve general service facilities.

2000:
New regional branch at Ruvo di Puglia
We have opened a new regional branch
at Ruvo di Puglia (BA) to give a point of
reference to deafblind people and their families
in that area. They can use our social welfare
services for information and advice.
The branch will also carry out research
to identify the needs in the area and
develop the necessary services.

1999:
Redecoration and furnishing of classrooms:
We have started work on 6 classrooms on the first floor of the Osimo Centre so that our young people can have environments more suited to their education and rehabilitation.

Holidays:
We have been able to give many happy moments both socially and in a learning sense to the deafblind young people and adults who have taken part in our summer holidays.

Development of Milan and Naples branches:
We have developed services in our Milan and Naples branches to offer more assistance to the deafblind in the North and South of Italy.

1998:
New hostel accommodation:
We built a new house where mothers, fathers and other family members can stay occasionally to be near their children and learn what they need to know about their rehabilitation.

1997:
Attic work:
We created a new floor in the Centre of Rehabilitation in Osimo by using the space under the roof. Now our young people have their own single rooms and can thus develop greater autonomy.
