We are very committed to research and experimentation. In fact we have a Research Centre for pedagology and technical-rehabilitation studies. Its role is to identify the needs of the rehabilitation services and produce programmes for creating, testing and introducing tools and methods. It has close links with many international and Italian university institutes which are concerned with research into disability.

To maintain ongoing contact with the scientific/university world, the Technical-Scientific Committee, which offers autonomous support to the Institute, has worked for over 20 years to define a research policy in the fields of biomedics, psychopedagogy and technology-rehabilitation and to promote scientific awareness throughout the Centre to encourage a homogeneous and coherent working approach.
The Lega del Filo d'Oro also takes an active part in projects set up by the European Union or by other public or private institutes, which are aimed at improving the quality of services for the disabled.

•Horizon: Two experimental EU projects aimed at identifying and filling work placements for deafblind people.

• Netd@ys: An EU project run in conjunction with two schools on the use of new technology in communications for the disabled.

• Computer ed handicap: A long-term project aimed at identifying new learning technologies and producing technological aids for the cognitive and global development of people with psychophysical handicaps.

These and other projects have studied in depth topics such as functional rehabilitation, long-distance communication and work possibilities for the disabled. Thus offering a new perspective on rehabilitation, especially for adults.
