Managing to communicate is the most difficult thing for a deafblind person, but also the most important.
At the Lega del Filo d'Oro, we try and find the right methods and tools for each child and adult so that we can teach them as many skills as possible. A deafblind person can in fact learn to recognise many things in the environment by using any residual sight and hearing and the senses of touch and smell. However, the main way for a deafblind person to relate or perceive is by using the hand. With the hand, a person can "see, hear, speak and read".

Communication is not only speaking
To relate to others and overcome the problems of isolation, deafblind people can use various methods of non-verbal communication from the simplest to the most complex. To interact with others, the deafblind find the most suitable system for their type of impairment and the age at which it started. The Osimo Centre tests new systems every day to find the latest methods of communication.
